How to Upload 2 Vhd Files From Disk2vhd to Virtualbox

I believe virtual box by oracle (gratuitous) runs VHDs. You might be able to kicking that VHD image in virtual box, delete the un-necessary stuff to shrink information technology down to 127gb or less and then try to run information technology in hyper-5 again. (brand a re-create before doing so)

Try the windows installation cd and run into if you can practise a repair on the installation while booting in hyper-Five. I didn't encounter that it only copied certain data before I posted most virtual box.

If you can however see all of the data mounted than most likely it just corrupted the windows install.

Worst comes to worst endeavour a data recovery program on the original drive. If y'all still tin can't boot, merely the drive has all 200gb again, run the windows installation disk and either try the built in repair (win7) or use the cmd prompt rescue and try fixmbr.

You tin can catechumen the VHD to a VDI for Oracle Virtual Box. I have most no experience in VM, but I can tell you I have done this to a VHD that was 74GB. To this date, 2 PCs and a laptop subsequently, the VHD however works.

Can you mount the VHD in Disk Direction? If so, you can shrink the VHD down to a usable size.

ran startup repair and it crashed - opened cmd and ran bootrec.exe - that didn't help, I now get disk read error

Was this mail helpful? thumb_up thumb_down

I have also tried opening information technology using oracle virtual box but got the same error, volition try coverting it to vmware format and hopefully it'll open up with vmware role player

I can mountain the VHD in deejay management

What was the host Os? Did you have multiple partitions -- did you get them all? if information technology has xp as the host or 2003, yous need to slip out the HAL with the check box in Disk2VHD.

Was this mail helpful? thumb_up thumb_down

Yous tin can utilize the "Shrink VHD" function of Disk Management and the VHD Resizer utility to get your VHD down to the size you want. I might also try a chkdsk /r on a copy of the VHD while mounted. Yous may be battling file system corruption.

it was windows seven 32 bit - just ane partition

copying the vhd to brand sure I have some other backup and will try to remove some files

thanks!

ok, I removed about 60GB of data. The size is still over 127GB however, I cannot shrink the partition from figurer managing director (after attaching VHD) it says not plenty space on disks. I tried to compress information technology past 20GB which would leave 40GB of complimentary space, merely that didn't piece of work either. VHD resizer won't shrink the VHD beyond the current size which is 232GB

i recommed using VM converter and and so use vmdk2vhd to make it compatiable with hyper v I did this with all my systems and worked like a gem

aye a little more fourth dimension consuming BUT i was able to avoid those size problems

I am probably reading this wrong but win 7 never only has just ane sectionalisation, there is always a pocket-sized boot partition and a larger OS segmentation.  Both of these need to exist there or you wont get information technology to kicking.

I am probably reading this incorrect simply win 7 never only has merely one partition, in that location is e'er a small-scale boot partitioning and a larger OS partition.  Both of these need to be there or you wont get information technology to kick.

sorry that'southward right, when I made the backup, it had merely one sectionalization however when I attach it there are 3

I converted the file to vmdk nonetheless when I try to open it in vmware actor I get an error: <vm path> line 1 syntax error

Was this mail service helpful? thumb_up thumb_down

last option (I think) now is to convert it to vmware and dorsum to hyper-5 - doubt it'll work simply worth a effort

the method i mentioned above worked flawlessly so if you simply follow the wizards, you should take zero problems. there are a few articles out there which completely outline the steps I can run across if I can find them if you cannot

My workaround was Oracle Virtualbox. Never used it before, but I'k really impressed with the product.

only to make sure, does the method you lot posted crave the physical pc to exist online & working, or tin can this be washed with the vhd file? I practice not have the physical PC anymore (it has been formatted and reinstalled) only the VHD file.

Was this post helpful? thumb_up thumb_down

i thought your VHD file is non working then you were trying to redo your P2V yous tin can use that method but if y'all already have the VHD file then you have your concluding result already for hyper-v

if you did not become all the drives I detest to say it but I retrieve you might be screwed as information technology won't kick regardless considering you don't take that additional drive windows needs to start

Was this post helpful? thumb_up thumb_down

that's right the file is not working, I tin scan it just non boot from it. I thought that'll exist enough but apparently information technology'due south not :( so need to go it working somehow - I reinstalled the original pc and then I can't make another snapshot of it

Was this post helpful? thumb_up thumb_down

yea i recall yous might accept learned a tough lesson, don't erase the physical until you lot take the virtual upwardly. Possibly someone can chime in and put this in the correct section (other than backup) and get others input only to my cognition you needed that other drive

How-do-you-do Martin1718,

Yous may likewise desire to consider downloading the ShadowProtect software trial from our website.  The xxx-day trial version is a full product that you can apply to create an image-based backup of your original car.  From that backup you can use the included VM Converter tool to convert to a VMWare format or use the VirtualBoot tool to directly boot your backup as a VirtualBox (Oracle's freeware product) VM.

Yous tin can likewise mount your backup at any recovery point as an NTFS share, in case you but wanted to retrieve specific files or folders.  In addition, if y'all ever wanted to movement your organization from a virtual to a concrete surroundings (V2P) you can easily restore from a VM'southward fill-in concatenation to different physical hardware using our patented Hardware Independent Restore technology which automatically injects the correct drivers for you into the destination organization.

Best wishes,

yep, lesson learnt :)

that stinks :/

Was this post helpful? thumb_up thumb_down

Pretty sure a Windows repair install would solve it... If you can adhere the VHD in VPC/VirtualBox and get the book to mount/viewable that's near of the battle!
